Empowering Women and Children with Disabilities, with a Focus on Deaf Women in Tanzania
Furahaya Wanawake Wajasiriamali wa Viziwi Tanzania (FUWAVITA) is a leading non-governmental organization dedicated to transforming the lives of women, girls, and children with disabilities across Tanzania, with a special focus on Deaf women. Established in 2008 and officially registered in 2010, FUWAVITA was founded to address the systemic challenges faced by people with disabilities, including extreme poverty, social exclusion, and gender-based violence.
Our mission is clear: to build self-reliance, enhance social inclusion, and empower women, girls, and children with disabilities, particularly Deaf women, to realize their full potential. Through entrepreneurship training, leadership development, health awareness, and advocacy, FUWAVITA equips its members with the skills, resources, and confidence to lead independent, dignified lives.
Over the years, FUWAVITA has empowered hundreds of women and children with disabilities to establish successful businesses, access education and healthcare, and actively participate in economic, political, and social life. We collaborate with local and international partners, leveraging community engagement and innovative programs to create lasting change.
